10 Rules for Sweating the Small Stuff

I always tell members of my career mentoring site that successful people sweat the small stuff. Here is a list of 10 rules for sweating the small stuff. Put these rules to work and you’ll be on your way to a successful and fulfilling life and career.

  • Keep commitments and meet deadlines. If you are going to miss a deadline, let other people know as soon as you can so they can alter their plans.
  • Proof your written documents. Don’t just run them through spell check.
  • Return phone calls and email messages promptly.
  • Be helpful. Think about what you can do to help other people reach their goals.
  • Be a team player. Focus on helping your entire team succeed.
  • Be well groomed and appropriate for every situation.
  • Learn and use the basic rules of business etiquette.
  • Create a positive on line presence.
  • Send handwritten thank you notes to people who have helped you.
  • Say “thank you” often.

Your career mentor,

Bud
