In this article I make a simple, but important, point.

Build your network before you need it.

It will be too late if you wait until you need a supportive network to start building one.

So start networking today.  The easiest way to do so is to get in touch with a friend with whom you’ve lost contact.  Ask him or her if there is anything you can do to help him or her. Do this once a day for the next several weeks and you’ll be on your way to building a strong network that will be there when you need it.
