Career Sucess Advice from an Idealist

Ami Dar is the Founder and Executive Director of Idealist.org.

The Idealist.org mission is to “close the gap between intention and action by connecting people, organizations, ideas, and resources.”

They march up non profits with the need for some help with people who are seeking internships and/or volunteer opportunities.

How cool is that?!!?

More great career success advice from your career mentor

Recently, I read an interview in which Dar listed three of his biggest life lessons…

  1. Focus on your goals and don’t get distracted by shiny objects along the way.
  2. Hire kind and interesting people who make you laugh.
  3. When you make a hiring mistake, fix it as quickly as possible.

Great advice — it can be easy to get distracted from your goals — especially if you’re someone like me who finds almost everything to be fascinating.  I’m always telling myself to focus.

The last two bits of advice remind me of two tweets in my career mentoring book, Success Tweets.

Tweet 49 says, “Surround yourself with positive people.  Hold them close.  They will give you energy and help you create the success you want and deserve.”

Tweet 50 says, “Jettison the negative people in your life.  They are energy black holes.  They will suck you dry; but only if you let them.”

Put Dar’s advice to work, and watch your career flourish.

Your career mentor,

Bud
