Too many young folks are saddled with an overload of student loan debt. As a result, it makes sense for people to try and avoid a ton of debt. Thankfully, there are lots of jobs in the marketplace that don’t require a degree. Keep in mind that there is a trade-off. In most of these careers, you’ll have to start on the entry-level status and work your way up the totem pole. Overall, experience will be your best friend in these jobs. 1. Truck Driver
Becoming a truck driver is an exciting opportunity because not only is it financially rewarding, it gives you the opportunity to see the country. Cross-country runs aren’t uncommon. In many circumstances, you’ll transport goods to different retailers. If you’d like to have someone join you on the road, it’s a perfect way to allow someone else to see the wide open spaces truckers normally go. In order to start this career, you’ll need to earn your CDL certification. You can choose to work for an established company that already has its own fleet of trucks or get your own truck and do contract work. Just know that the front and back ends of the truck are usually sold separately. Basically, that means that you’ll need to buy the truck and then get the flatbed from a company like Glider Systems Inc to complete the full trailer.
2. Real Estate Broker
A real estate broker manages the transactions between people who are buying a home, and those who are selling a home. This job also includes handling some of the details of the home loans and mortgages. However, real estate can be an incredibly lucrative career. You can start as a real estate broker and work your way into learning more about real estate investing and consulting.
3. Farmer/Agricultural Manager
When you were a child, you probably read about a man named Old McDonald. As you probably know, he had a farm with lots of animals. Well, did you know that you could follow in Old McDonald’s footsteps and become a farmer or agricultural manager? This is a very lucrative career. With many people becoming skeptical of practices within the food industry, farmers who cultivate produce, dairy products and livestock with integrity are truly appreciated. Plus, as you progress in your career, you can purchase more lots and rent them out to other farmers for more income. There are so many ways to turn this job into a lucrative and fulfilling experience.
4. Detective/Criminal Investigator
Do you enjoy watching television shows like CSI? If you have dreams of becoming a criminal investigator or detective, understand that you don’t have to sign up for four years of classroom education and debt. This field involves street smarts, intuition, intellect and tenacity. You can choose the college route to this career, of course, but on-the-job training will be your best weapon in order to progress in this field.
These careers are just a few of the many options on the market. Don’t get hoodwinked into believing that you have to go to school to have a successful career. There are many different paths, but you should know that you still have options if you feel that college is not the route for you.
