Patience is a Virtue

This article is written to leaders.  But its common sense advice on patience can help you move ahead in your life and career even if you’re not in a formal leadership position.

Some people equate patience with lack of results and excuses — a lack of urgency.  It’s not.  AS the article points out,  “Patience isn’t weak, doesn’t accept mediocrity or tolerate lethargy.”

Besides that, there are four very serious side effects of lack of patience…

  1. Fractured relationships.
  2. Fear driven results.
  3. Excuses for rudeness.
  4. Coming off as arrogant. If you’re constantly frustrated with people, you’re an arrogant ass.

I really like the last two.  It’s never appropriate to be rude.  And arrogance can cost you a promotion.  Nobody wants to work for a jerk.  You may be the smartest guy or gal in the room, but if you have a need to constantly prove it, you’re going to have a difficult time building the strong relationships you need to succeed.
