What To Do When You’re Unhappy in Your Career

I’m a lucky guy.  I figured out what I wanted to do with my life and career when I was about 25 years old.  I realize that a lot of folks aren’t so lucky.  Many of my career mentoring clients come to me because they are unhappy with the path they have chosen and are looking for a way to make a change.

This article lays out five simple ways to think about what will make you happy in your life and career.

I think that all five bits of advice are great.  I particularly like the last one — it has to feel right.

I know that we have all sorts of quantitative decision making tools at our disposal these days, but I am a big believer in the power of gut instinct.  I have made many decisions in my life and career on the basis of what my gut told me.  I followed up on some opportunities and turned down others.  And, I’ve never regretted any important decision I’ve made based on my gut.

Make sure you do your due diligence when making big career decisions — but never overlook your gut feelings about a situation or opportunity.

Your career mentor,

Bud
