WOOP Your Way to Success

I am a sucker for acronyms.  I came across WOOP (Wish, Outcome, Obstacles, Plan) in the article below.

I like WOOP because it makes intuitive sense to me.

You begin with a wish — something you want to achieve.

You then specify an outcome.

Then you get real.  You take a look at the obstacles you are likely to encounter along the way.

Then you put a plan in place to help you reach your specific outcome and to deal with the potential problems and obstacles  you are likely to encounter.

Then you work your plan. Sounds simple — and it is in concept.  But you have to do the work to put your plan into action and fight through the obstacles you encounter along the way.

I think that identify the obstacles you are likely to encounter is the most powerful step here.  When you do this you are admitting to yourself upfront that things aren’t always going to go smoothly.  You also can do some planning for how you will address the potential obstacles you’ve identified.  This will help you when you run into the inevitable obstacles as start working your plan.
